Jesse Norman, financial secretary to the Treasury, said the pact is evidence of the strong bond shared by London and Washington. The signing comes as rumours swirl about a possible trade deal being secured by the UK and the EU.
Mr Norman tweeted: “Delighted to sign the UK-US Customs Assistance Agreement this afternoon with @USAmbUK.
“Testimony to three years of hard work by @HMRCgovuk and US Customs and Homeland Security officials.
“And 200+ years of the UK-US special relationship.”
