Jacinda Ardern heads back to university for progress report on shovel ready project

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is poised to provide an update on plans for the safe extraction of Kiwis from Afghanistan.

The Defence Force was working on plans to get Kiwis out of the trouble area as the Taliban seizes control of the country.

Ardern noted commercial flights had ceased operating out of Kabul.

Ardern will also address media after her tour.

Ardern has headed back to Auckland University for an update on a new facility at the University of Auckland funded by the Government’s shovel-ready project fund.

Ardern, along with Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson and Covid Response Minister Chris Hipkins is visiting the city campus this morning to get an update on the new School of Education and Social Work facility due to completed by 2024.

The construction of the project, announced last August, was expected to create 750 jobs in the building sector.

The project includes refurbishing and rebuilding at least six existing buildings in poor condition and making sure they are fit for purpose for contemporary teaching and research.
