Jackie Baillie told Good Morning Scotland that people are bemused by the errors of judgement that were exposed by the inquiry. The Labour MSP, who was on the committee during the Alex Salmond inquiry, added that the Scottish Government must urgently restore trust in political institutions.
The Scottish Labour Deputy Leader said: “I think his [James Hamilton] report makes interesting observations that we need to consider and learn from.
“I do not think there are any winners in this, I think the whole thing has been damaging to public trust in our politics and also in our institutions at a time where there is a national crisis going on.
“I think people are just generally bemused about these errors of judgement.
“From my part, I think we urgently need to restore trust in our institutions.”
On Monday, it was announced that Irish lawyer James Hamilton cleared Nicola Sturgeon of breaching ministerial code over the Alex Salmond inquiry during his report.
