An area of high pressure is set to sweep over the UK sending temperatures to between 15C and 17C degrees in northern areas, while the south will see cooler climes. Ms Kirkwood said the unseasonal weather will last through most of Thursday before thermometers begin to slip ahead of a significantly colder weekend.

BBC Breakfast forecaster Carole Kirkwood said: “It is a really mild start to the day.

“In Aboyne in Aberdeenshire, the temperature is currently 14C!”

Ms Kirkwood stressed how that is the minimum temperature for the day as she noted the mercury will rocket to 17C later in the day.

The presenter stressed how the average November temperature in Aboyne is 8C so there is a big difference in today’s forecast.

As for the rest of the UK, she added: “Where we have got the cloud it is going to be a mild day.

“But we do have some breaks in that cloud in central and eastern areas.”

In southern areas she noted temperatures are between 5C and 7C.

But rain will arrive off the far north tip of Scotland while the Western Isles will be battered by 40mph winds.

“But we have got some rain moving across northern Scotland.”

She added how the warm weather will filter south through Friday and send the mercury rising as it travels.

But this movement will bring with it a colder patch in its wake.

Ms Kirkwood had previously warned about the weekend weather, saying: “But for Scotland, it will be fairly cloudy with that rain in the North, the Northwest and it’s not going to be as windy either.

“But it will still be very mild for the time of year we could get 16 or 17 in certain parts of eastern Scotland and also the Northeast of England, so temperatures Sal and John way above average but it’s not going to last things will cool down by the time we get to Sunday.”

“We have been warned,” replied the BBC Breakfast hosts.
