An animal shelter has posted an image of a dog and letter that were left outside their premises by a 12-year-old boy.
The youngster left the adorable pit bull in a box outside the rescue centre alongside an incredibly sad note that detailed why the youngster could no longer look after the pooch.
The note reads: "My name is Andrés and I am 12 years old. My mom and I decided to leave my dog in your hands, hiding it from my dad because he is thinking about selling him.
"But he mistreats and kicks him. One day he kicked him so hard that he hurt his tail. I hope you can help and take care of him.
"I left him a stuffed animal so he won't forget me."
Staff at the Refugio Xollin rescue shelter in Michoacan, Mexico, revealed the contents of the note on Facebook after many were nearly brought to tears.
Posting a photo of the letter and the sweet puppy, they wrote: "They left us this dog outside the shelter, inside a box, with a note and a stuffed animal.
"The note was written by a boy, where he explained that his father mistreated this puppy and was going to sell it.
"With all that burden of despair they left [it with] us to be saved."

The animal will now be treated for any parasites before being put up for adoption in a bid to find his forever home.
The shelter's post has attracted a huge amount of attention, with hundreds of people offering to take the pup in.
But staff quickly said the pit bull needs to fully recover before they can find a new owner for him.
They added: "If everyone opened their heart and their home like this little dog, they would have adopted all our dogs from the shelter."
