Brit woman, 22, spent week in coma after plunging from balcony on holiday

A woman who was given a "50/50 chance of survival" after she fell from a balcony on her holidays in Croatia will "make a full recovery," and is fit to fly home to Scotland after waking from a coma.

Jennifer Walsh, 22, suffered a bleed on the brain, two skull fractures, a punctured lung, broken collar bone, broken ribs and a fractured wrist when she plunged from a height in the city of Dubrovnik on October 2.

Medics placed Jennifer, from Edinburgh, into a coma to perform brain surgery in a desperate bid to save her life, the Daily Record reported.

Just four days ago a "confused" Jennifer woke from the coma and can now string "a few sentences together".

Doctors said the holidaymaker is now fit to fly home, reports EdinburghLive.

A private air ambulance will take her back to Scotland and, upon arrival, she will receive further treatment at a hospital close to the family home.

Medics also said Jennifer will make a full recovery, according to her sister Sara.

Sara wrote in a public social media post: "Yesterday we got the news that Jen is fit to fly home to Scotland.

"This will be via private air ambulance, she will then get taken to a hospital close to us.

"Jennifer has been able to say a few sentences which is so amazing.

"At this time, she is still confused due to the trauma of the accident, which is normal.

"We have also been informed by the doctors that she will make a full recovery.

"This is the news we all needed to hear, the news we all prayed for. We have a long road ahead of us for her full recovery but she is doing amazing already."

She added: "Day by day we are receiving more positive news about Jen.

"I can't even explain how happy we are to hear this news, after getting told that there was a 50/50 chance of survival to now have this news.

"You are such a fighter, Jen. We are thinking about you every day."

Sara then went on to thank the public for their generosity, as the family started a GoFundMe page which was launched after it was discovered Jennifer flew to Croatia without travel insurance.

So far, over £38,000 has been raised for the Walsh family to help with her recovery and costs to get her home to Scotland.
