China stands ready to capitalize on Joe Biden’s decision to end military operations in Afghanistan. A WION TV host has warned that the Taliban is standing by to “rollout out the red carpet” to Beijing with the last US troops set to leave the region by August 31. It comes amid concern as Taliban forces capture swathes of territory across Afghanistan as western forces pull out.

WION presenter Palki Sharma said the Taliban is on the lookout for allies”those who do not believe in democracy or basic freedoms of power-sharing.”

“I will give you an example,” said the reporter, “The Taliban says it is ready to welcome China into Afghanistan with open arms.”

“They see Beijing as a friend they want to roll out the red carpet for China.

“They want China to begin reconstruction work in Afghanistan quote on quote ‘as soon as possible’.”

Ms Sharma continued: “These are the words of Taliban spokesperson Suhail Shaheen let me quote from what he said, he said ‘we welcome them if they have investments, of course we ensure their safety. Their safety is very important for us.’

“China’s safety is very important for the Taliban they say,” added the WION host.

Quoting the Taliban spokesperson she continued: “We have been to China many times and we good relations with them.

“China is a friendly country that we welcome for reconstruction and developing Afghanistan.”

US built a ‘failed nation’ in Afghanistan says Scott Ritter

It comes as US President Joe Biden was lammed over the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.

Biden’s stance has been slammed by former UN Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter.

Mr Ritter told RT: “If all we wanted to do was kill Bin Laden and annihilate AL-Queda we got have done that much sooner without taking that which we did undertake.

“Biden can say otherwise but the reality is we were involved in nation-building.

“We did build a nation in Afghanistan, a failed nation and now we are abandoning it.

“I would be the last person to argue for a continued American military presence but we need to be honest with the Afghan people.

“With their neighbours, with their regional neighbours and with the world.”

“That what we did for the last 20 years was fail,” added the former UN weapons inspector.”
