London’s iconic Winter Wonderland might be shut for 2020, but a downsized version has opened in Brent Cross to help inject some joy into Christmas celebrations during the coronavirus pandemic.
Winter Festival at Brent Cross has thrown open the gates to rides and food stalls this weekend – with the attraction due to stay in place until January 10, 2021.
And the organisers, who would have been part of Winter Wonderland, have said they have worked to ensure their venue is as Covid-19 secure as possible as the ongoing pandemic continues to be a concern in the run up to Christmas.
Outdoor winter funfair enthusiasts will be able to enjoy rides including ferris wheels, dodgems and "Santa's Spinning Coaster" – as well as ice skating and enjoying food and drinks.
Organisers say they have put measures in place to ensure members of the public stay safe while enjoying all the attractions.
They said: “We strive to ensure the best possible visitor experience in the safest way we will always put health and safety first. We take our responsibilities to our customers, our staff and our suppliers extremely seriously. With this in mind we have implemented new restrictions, guidelines, requests of respect to others and strict rules.
“This is to ensure that we can continue to provide a great day out whilst being mindful of the seriousness that Coronavirus brings and the actions we should take to limit the spread of infection or transmission.

The organisers encourage all visitors to read up on their safety guidelines, and add: “Our on-site signage is clearly displayed and it is important that you and your party follow our site rules at all times.
“If any item is unclear or not understood then please speak to a member of staff who will be happy to advise you.”
Opening hours for the attractions – which are found at the Brent Cross shopping centre in north-west London – are from 4pm to 9pm every Monday to Friday and 12pm to 9pm at weekends.
These are extended to 12pm to 9pm every day from Saturday, December 19.
Those wanting to take part in the fun will need to book tickets in advance as the fairground is limiting the number of people permitted inside the grounds as part of their Covid protection plans.
All individuals aged 11 and over will need to bring their own face coverings to the attractions.
The official Winter Festival at Brent Cross website also warns that there could be situations where some attractions and shows will be closed “from time to time” in accordance with their strict approach to health and safety.
