Family accidentally donates pet cat to charity shop after it hides inside chair

A family who accidentally donated their cat to a charity shop have been reunited with their pet.

The owners of ginger tom Montequlla decided to give away a few bits of furniture prior to moving house, and one of the items they donated was a reclining chair.

What they didn’t realise as they were loading the chair into a van was that it was slightly heavier than it should have been – to the tune of one stowaway cat.

Staff at the ARC thrift store in Denver, Colorado, spotted Montequlla peeking out at them from inside the chair and contacted Denver Animal Protection.

DAP’s Officer Humphreys picked the furry stowaway up, and scanned his microchip, but unfortunately his owners hadn’t updated his microchip information with their new address.

Thankfully, after the family realised their cat was missing they thought to check with the thrift store, and someone there told them that Montequlla was now being looked after by Denver Animal Protection.

“We are so happy for the ending to this story,” Denver Animal Protection Officers wrote on their Facebook page, adding that they were “thankful to everyone involved in getting this sweet cat home safely.”

You don’t even need to move house to lose your cat. A TikTok user named Giavanna shared the hilarious story of the time she did her house up and accidentally sealed her cat into a wall.

“When the tile got done yesterday my dad and I forgot about the tile getting done and the cat being in there,” she explained.

Luckily for the cat, its piteous cries could be heard through the wall. Giavanna's dad cut a small square shaped hole in the connecting wall which created an opening for the animal to get free.

Hilariously, though, the moggy didn’t immediately jump at the opportunity to escape and just poked its head out, seeming rather content in its new hideaway.

The video of the moment when the cat peeked out become a viral sensation, racking up a staggering 5.5 million views and 624,000 likes.
