Ian Maxwell, 64, said his sister has lost weight and “the ability to concentrate” due to the “appalling” conditions she is being held in. Maxwell, 59, is in custody in New York awaiting accused of recruiting underage girls for ex-boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse.

Ian said: “My sister is held in the most appalling conditions. Four guards observe her all the time and presumably another is looking at the camera feeds. She is not allowed in the corners of her cell. She is not allowed within two and a half feet of the cell door. This is simply wrong.

“My sister’s imprisonment is a disgrace to any civilised democracy.”

Maxwell’s legal team have complained about the conditions, claiming she is being awoken at night every 15 minutes by guards.

She has pleaded not guilty to any involvement in grooming minors for the late Epstein, who committed suicide in jail in 2019.
