The man, who was reportedly wearing body armour, was stopped by security guards at the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
Police officers responded to the scene at around 1.30pm (8.30pm GMT) to investigate.
A spokesperson with the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement to FOX 11 that the driver of the vehicle was wearing body armour and the vehicle contained multiple loaded firearms and knives.
The Roybal Federal building is a US federal courthouse for the District of California and is located in downtown Los Angeles.
