Man ‘spent four hours browsing child sex abuse images’ on iPad in tech shop

A convicted sex offender was arrested after allegedly browsing child porn for hours on an iPad in a tech shop.

Nathan Wood, 38, has pleaded not guilty after the incident in an AT&T store in Boulder, Colorado.

Authorities claim Wood used an iPad at the branch for four hours on April 18 before eventually leaving.

After the store closed, employees searched the device's browser history and were horrified to find numerous dark web pornographic sites featuring sex abuse images of children.

When the iPad was inspected by police, officers say they found German expressions had been entered into a browser which when translated referred to pictures of naked children.

AT&T staff members said the store iPads wipe their history every night and no one else had used the device before Wood that day.

Using surveillance footage the police managed to track Wood down, who confessed to looking at porn while in AT&T but said none of it had featured children.

He also denied allegations that he'd searched for child sex abuse images in German, saying he must have gotten confused and entered the wrong words.

"I wasn't expecting Google to put out stuff that was illegal," he reportedly told officers.

Wood was charged with sexual exploitation of a child and attempted sexual exploitation of a child, both of which are felonies.

On Tuesday he pleaded not guilty to both charges in Boulder District Court.

His five-day trial is scheduled for May and he remains in custody without bond after he was accused of violating his parole.

Wood had prior convictions for sexual assault and burglary, both of which he was convicted of in 2012.

Then 29, he reportedly stole women's clothing from the bathrooms of female dormitories at the University of Colorado in 2011, as well as assaulted a woman while she slept in one of the dorms.

He was arrested and charged with sexual assault, four counts of trespass, three counts of burglary and three counts of theft.

Wood was sentenced to six years in prison plus two years of work release and supervised probation for these offences.
