A man with gunshot wounds is in a "serious condition" following a shooting in in Rotherham on Wednesday morning.
South Yorkshire Police said officers were alerted to a shooting in in Thrybergh in Rotherham at 9.20am.
A man was immediately taken to hospital with gunshot wounds and is reportedly in a "serious condition."
Police are investigating the incident but have said it is in its "early stages" and have not released any further information.
The force has closed Park Lane in Thrybergh as initial enquiries take place and have urged anyone with any information to come forward.
A local resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, told YorkshireLive police were spotted at Rotherham General Hospital hospital after a man arrived at hospital with injuries.
Armed police remain at Rotherham General Hospital for "everyone’s safety," the source claims.
On Twitter, a local said there is a "major police incident" on Park Lane and sent "prayers for anybody hurt."
Others have reported seeing a police helicopter circling above the scene, and was stationary above Kimberworth, it has been reported.
In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said: "Officers were called at 9.20am this morning following reports a man was in hospital with suspected gunshot injuries.
"He is described as being in serious condition.
"Park Lane in Thrybergh has been closed by police to allow for initial enquiries to take place.
"An investigation is underway and is in its early stages."
