Fuming voters finally had enough of their blundering mayor, so they tied him to a tree.
The elected leader was subjected to an angry mob who roped him to a tree trunk and beat him.
Mayor Oscar Ramirez Aguilar was confronted by his constituents in Frontera Comalapa, Mexico.
Residents in 11 different neighbourhoods in southern Mexico had been waiting for the obtainable drinking water.
Voters had elected him on the promise that he would get a water tank for the community.
In fact, Ramirez is reportedly known for his outlandish campaign promises, according to local reports.
He had claimed he would build quality housing along with his water purification promise.
But when voters looked closer at the tank, they found it "in a terrible condition" and leaking.
The whole community was expecting to benefit from the tank, local paper Cuarto Poder reported.
A video posted on Twitter showed some of the residents' anger, with one commenting on the water tank: "In some parts it leaks. In other parts, they clogged the holes sloppily."
Fuming protesters then took the situation into heir own hands and tied the mayor to a tree.
Neighbours wouldn’t set him free until he promised he would fix the tank.
Standing in jeans, a shirt and a face mask, the blundering official was surrounded by voters as lambasted him for his service.
He was held captive for two hours before finally being untied, according to reports. He was only released after he promised to get the tank repaired.
Elections are pencilled in for June.
