Meghan Markle hires Oprah Winfrey pal as she plans ‘low-key 40th birthday bash’

Meghan Markle has reportedly hired the services of Oprah Winfrey's party planner for her upcoming birthday celebrations.

The Duchess of Sussex will turn 40 on Wednesday and will celebrate the step into middle-age with a gathering of around 65 guests.

According to reports, the mum-of-two will be keeping the celebration very "low-key" with guests enjoying "grazing tables" for snacks, reports The Mirror.

It is thought that Oprah’s party planner Colin Cowie will take on organising responsibilities for the big bash which will no doubt include some of Harry and Meghan's celebrity pals on the guest list.

Cowie has planned previous parties for the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Tom Cruise, Jennifer Lopez, and Kim Kardashian.

In May 2019 Meghan reportedly upset royal aides when she flew out to New York for a baby shower with friends before Archie was born.

A source said: "Megan wants a small gathering. About 65 people are invited, including her closest friends and family. Colin was recommended to her by Oprah who always puts on fabulous parties."

Cowie’s mantra is: "The equation for the gold standard of service isn’t 1+1=2. It’s 1+1=3. What can you do to stay ahead of the curve?"

In 2018 he was voted Vogue’s No1 wedding planner and caterer in the northeast United States.

Before Archie was born in May 2019, she flew out to New York to celebrate with friends at lavish hotel The Mark in Manhattan, which apparently didn’t go down well with royal aides.

This week’s bash will not break Covid rules, with California open.

Biographer Tom Bower recently claimed Meghan's next steps are to "conquer American, then the world".

Writing in a column for The Sun he commented: "Blowing out the 40 candles on her birthday cake on Wednesday, Meghan Markle will be rightly thrilled about her phenomenal triumph.

"Unlike many women who fear toppling over the cliff edge at 40, Meghan stands in the global spotlight as one of the world’s superstars, convinced her destiny will soar towards greater fame and fortune.

"Within just 18 months of snubbing the Queen and abandoning Britain, Meghan and Prince Harry are enjoying an enviable lifestyle in their £11 million, nine-bedroom, 16-bathroom palace north of Los Angeles.

"Financed by multimillion-dollar contracts with Netflix, Spotify, and a four-book publishing deal, she is sitting in the sunshine beside a huge swimming pool in a five-acre, manicured garden, plotting how to realise her breathtaking ambitions."
