A leading royal commentator has been left stunned over a claim that Meghan Markle's personal worth has exploded and she is now worth $60 million.
Angela Levin took to Twitter to comment on the claim, which has been made on the Celebrity Net Worth website.
She tweeted: “Yikes. A website called Celebrity Net Worth claims that Meghan is worth $60 million. When she met Harry it was $5m.”
The website, which describes Prince Harry’s wife as “an American humanitarian, philanthropist and former actress”, says the vast figure refers to the combined net worth of the famous couple.
It adds: “Prior to marrying Harry, Meghan's separate net worth was $5 million. He came to the marriage with a net worth of $20 million, the majority of which came from a trust fund set up by his late mother, Princess Diana.”
The Sussexes, who moved to the United States last year after Harry stepped away from royal duties, have signed some lucrative deals recently.
One of them involved a five-year production tie-up with Netflix, with reports claiming it’s worth a staggering $100 million. The deal will involve them producing feature films, children’s programmes and documentaries.
They have also clinched a podcasting deal worth £18 million with Spotify.

Responding to the claim about their net worth, some on Twitter were quick to point out that much of that money was based on projected earnings rather than being cash in the bank.
One user, @Billybingbong2, replied to Angela: “If she fulfilled her contractual obligations she might be. But Netflix and Spotify have paid them only an advance, they have to produce content to get the rest.”
The celebrity pair now live in California on a multimillion-dollar estate.
But the large sums of money haven’t all been flowing one way. After they left the UK, they were told to pay back nearly £2.5 million to British taxpayers following the renovation work – paid for at public expense – that they’d had done at Frogmore House, the grace-and-favour home they had enjoyed before Harry packed in his royal duties.
The Frogmore House repayment is also thought to have included 18 months’ rent.
