Mexico cops bust nine members of ‘one of the most dangerous drug cartels’

Mexican cops have arrested nine suspected members of the notorious Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

The arrests took place in the town of Bonifacio Moreno in the municipality of Aguililla in the Mexican state of Michoacan, when the police first noticed three people in the street with firearms.

According to an official statement obtained by Newsflash, the three men disappeared into an abandoned building, when they realised they had been seen, and joined up with six other armed associates.

During the subsequent arrest, the police found eight firearms including a Barrett rifle, five AK-47s and two AR-15s. Twenty magazines for different weapons and 322 cartridges of various calibres were also seized.

The Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias ‘Mencho’, is one of the most dangerous drug cartels in Latin America.

Among numerous crimes against the authorities and civilians, group members have been known to slice open rivals with a knife to rip out their hearts before brandishing it in front of a video camera as a warning to others.

The Attorney General's Office estimates that the CJNG’s presence is consolidated in 28 of Mexico’s 32 states.

Reports said ‘Jaguar’ or ‘Burro Gris’, a former soldier and member of the CJNG ‘Delta’ group, was among the detainees, although this has not been confirmed by the authorities.

According to intelligence reports, Aguililla, located southwest of Michoacan, is under the control of Ricardo Ruiz Velazco, alias 'R2', a leading member of the CJNG.

He began his criminal career in the state of Jalisco, although later he decided to venture into Michoacan and ended up growing his operation into the states of Guanajuato and Zacatecas.

'R2' reportedly worked under the instructions of Juan Carlos Gonzalez, creator of the CJNG’s elite divisions designed to battle the Santa Rosa de Lima, Los Viagras, and La Familia Michoacana cartels for territory.

Reports said that ‘R2’ was detained by the police in Aguascalientes because he had nine arrest warrants against him dating back to December 2014. However, he was released hours later.
