Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ‘attitude’ has ‘divided Montecito’, locals say

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's "attitude" has "divided" the people in Montecito, residents claim.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocated to the leafy California neighbourhood at the start of 2020 after stepping back from their roles as working members of the Royal Family.

The couple have raised son Archie there, and it is also where they welcomed their second child, Lilibet, last year.

Harry and Meghan have settled into a sprawling mansion reportedly boasting a private gym, cinema, spa, tennis court and playground for the kids.

However, residents say that opinion of the Sussexes varies in the neighbourhood, reports the Express.

Katie, a retired university lecturer, said the Sussexes settling down in the celebrity-packed Montecito has left many residents “divided”.

She said: “A lot of people think, ‘yeah fun’, but a lot of people think, ‘they have got a bit of an attitude’.

“I do not think they are universally revered.”

She admitted that she had travelled up to the road on which the Sussex family lives, adding that locals in the area “are curious” about their famous royal neighbours.

But Judy, walking alongside Katie, dismissed the Duke and Duchess as public figures she is “truly not interested” in following.

She added: “There are people I know who are interested and curious about what they are doing.

“But I do not have any particular need to find out more about them.”

Dave Kanarek, a sports sale representative in Santa Barbara town, said that he has not “really heard much about Harry and Meghan” going about their lives in the local area.

He added from outside his workplace, Mountain Air Sports, that the Duke and Duchess tend to keep to themselves.

There are now suggestions that the Duke and Duchess could be looking to relocate from Montecito.

The couple are reportedly eyeing up the exclusive community of Hope Ranch, a matter of miles down the road from their current residence.

But royal biographer Tina Brown said the "super rich" Hope Ranch would be a "wholly different game" for the Sussex family.

She said during the Henley Literary Festival: "In Montecito, their $14million (£12.5m) mansion is a humble cottage compared to what these other people have."
