Prince Harry and William ‘still plan to stand together’ to unveil Diana statue

Prince William and Prince Harry still plan to stand together to unveil a statue of their mother on what would have been her 60th birthday, a source has claimed.

The brothers' relationship has been the subject of intense speculation since Harry and Meghan Markle's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey aired on Sunday, March 7.

Now it is claimed that they plan to break the ice before they are publicly reunited at the statue installation of Princess Diana on July 1, 2021.

A source told Us Magazine: "For all their differences, the two are still totally bonded on preserving their mother's legacy.

"It's a real shame that they're on such bad terms going into this because it's going to be very emotional.

"Diana would not want her sons to be in this bitter fight – and William and Harry both know that all too well."

The princes, 38 and 36, initially commissioned the Diana statue in 2017 to "mark the 20th anniversary of her death and recognise her positive impact in the UK and around the world".

They released a rare joint statement in August of last year to provide an update. It said: "The statue will be installed in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace on 1st July 2021, marking The Princess's 60th birthday.

"The Princes hope that the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on their mother's life and her legacy."

Princess Diana died aged 36 on August 31, 1997, in a car crash in Paris.

A telly star pal of Meghan's revealed that the brothers have talked since the Oprah interview, although Gayle King claimed the talks were "unproductive".

William is now said to be worried that anything he tells Harry will end up "plastered over American TV".

Among the explosive claims made in the Oprah Winfrey chat included the allegation that Kate Middleton made Meghan Markle cry in a row over bridesmaid dresses and suggestions someone in the Royal family was concerned about baby Archie's skin tone.

A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace has been contacted for comment.
