The UK’s most popular dog-related pub names unveiled

Naming a good old fashioned pub after man's best friends sounds like a recipe for success, if ever there was one.

As beer gardens open for punters up and down the country, dog owners will be scanning their locals' websites before booking, to make sure their four-legged family member can join them at the table.

If their names are anything to go by then there should be no shortage of dog-friendly boozers in Britain.

TeamDogs has done some digging to find out the most popular pub names relating to dogs, from The Black Pug in Warwick, to The Fox and Hounds in Berkshire.

Historically, pubs were recognised by their pictorial signage due to many customers being unable to read. As such, pubs were named through easily identifiable objects.

The likes of Hare and Hounds and Dog and Gun, often refer to nearby hunting or shooting hotspots over time.

No dog-based pub name however is as common in the UK as Henry VIII's favourite breed of hunting dog, the ‘Greyhound’.
